7 Things You Can Prepare To Make Mornings Easier With Kids

This is indeed a photo of me blending my smoothie in the bathroom. Anything is better than waking my kids up when both of them are asleep. Say hello to my dirty mirror.

Hey MWC Mommas,

The single BIGGEST piece of advice I can give when it comes to make your life easier in the mornings is to PREPARE EVERYTHING IN ADVANCE. If you look up “woman who cannot stand mornings and is a vicious beast to anyone who tries to speak to her before 10am (maybe 11am),” you would see a giant picture of me. Ever since I can remember, mornings were a nightmare for me. I detest being woken up by anything or anyone. However, since becoming a mom I’ve had to become accustomed to being woken up by my kids. Still, anything I can do to make life easier in the mornings, I’m all in. Here are 7 things I prepare either on one day of the week or at night:

1. PREP MEALS

I have gotten in the habit of prepping meals on one or two days of the week, depending on the shelf life of the meals I am making. I will have a post dedicated to this soon.

2. PRE-PACK YOUR BAGS AND YOUR KIDS BAGS

I put everything in my purse or bookbag that I will need for the next day. This usually includes my notebook, debit cards, lip gloss or Vaseline, my ID, insurance cards, my charger, headphones, and at least 4 pens. I pack my toddler’s bookbag with his toys, pullups, wipes, and sometimes a snack. My 3-month-old doesn’t leave the house as much since it’s so cold in NYC, but when he does, I pack his bottles, water, formula, change of clothes, diapers, and wipes.

3. PICK YOUR CLOTHES AND YOUR KID'S CLOTHES IN ADVANCE

I pick my clothes for the next day and lay them out. I even put my shoes next to my clothes.

My fiancé usually picks out my toddler’s clothes because he thinks my ability to match is questionable. However, if I do pick them, it’s always the night before. I am just starting to develop a system for picking clothes in advance for the entire week.

4. SHOWER AT NIGHT

I shower at night and leave my hair slightly damp so it’s easier to style in the morning. Showering is something I do to relax, so showering in the morning only makes me tired. I have curly hair so this is easy for me. If showering wakes you up, definitely stick to doing it in the morning.

5. PUT YOUR MAKEUP WHERE YOU ARE GOING TO BE APPLYING IT

If I’m wearing makeup the next day, I make sure that all my makeup products are in one place. Most of the time I do it in the bathroom, so that is where I leave it.

6. HAVE A TO-GO BASKET

Put things you need to remember to take, but don’t want to put in your bag, in a to-go basket (ex. your keys). Ideally, this basket would be next to your door.

7. IF YOU HAVE PETS, LEAVE THE LEASHES BY THE DOOR

I put my dog’s leashes by the door so whoever walks them doesn’t have to scramble in the morning.

If any of you have any other things you like to do in the morning, please share ! I am always down to try anything that will make things easier for the morning monster, a.k.a ME.
